it's simple once you understand it...just sometimes it's difficult to understand..

But I like the idea of a "you are here" dot, haha

Your current location is always the center point of your radar map.  The symbol code tells you what is around you.

R = Ruins
H = Homestead
O = Outpost
S = Settlement
D = Dunes
C = Crater
P = Plains

Oh.  The thing to remember with that map is that each of the squares is a 300 x 300 block.  The wiki entry on Mars breaks down the exact range for each sector.

A good rule of thumb is that the lower your coordinates, the closer you are to the center of the game map, the higher the closer to the edge.  If either side of your current coords is over 300 then you have reached the outer perimeter.  If either of them are over 600 you have run off the map and will see darkness in your radar.

Maybe in the stats it can list where your homestead is.
E.g.
Homestead location Albor Tholus
Mars dollars     X MD
Moves remaining    X
Anytime moves    -2

Or you could put it on the game screen itself, like:
Coordinates:     XXXS, XXXW Argyre Planitia
Homestead:     XXXS, XXXE Terra Sirenum

Or you could put it in both places. Only problem is if you put it on the game screen it might be too cluttered.

According to what Eric mentioned in the IRC chat last night, we can expect a super-cool update to the map and how it works pretty soon!

Anthraxus is correct.  Check out mars.google.com for a preview of what's to come.  Imagine a marker for each active player, and more.
